Cricket legends Shoaib and Pietersen thrilled spectators in exhibition match at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi
Early in December 2015, Sprite offered sports enthusiasts across the UAE the ultimate cricketing and entertainment bonanza of the year, as two of the sports’ biggest legends played an exciting exhibition match that had spectators at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi pumped up and cheering.
The fourth edition of the Sprite Cricket Stars tournament, which saw the participation of over 420 teams from 24 labor camps across the UAE,reached over 500,000 sports fans. The tournament, which was held in collaboration with the Smart Life foundation, targeted the region’s Asian community, who are known for their passion for cricket.
The action-packed event featured a number of entertainment acts and enthralling cricket matches, including the “Clash of the Champions”, an exhibition match between the former captain of the England team, Kevin Pietersen, and Shoaib Akhtar, the Pakistani cricket legend.

The final match of the Sprite Cricket Stars was contested by the “Rowdies” and Dubai Municipality cricket team, with the “Rowdies” team crowned as champions, winning the AED50,000 tournament prize, with the runners-up receiving AED25,000. In addition, Rowdies’ star player Aiyaz Saqib was named ‘Man of the Match’ and received an 18 Carat Golden ball and bat, courtesy of Joyalukkas.
Sports fans were also treated to live performances by a number of celebrities, including comedian Rauf Lala, Bollywood actress Riya Sen, in addition to Bollywood performers.
